About the What If...
About the What If...
For the love of Shakespeare – A Midsummer Night’s Dream
I've always had a love for
Shakespeare, which started during an English class at school. Seeing his plays
at the Globe in London allows you to experience how William Shakespeare
presented his works to the world. He's a beloved English playwright, poet, and
actor who is held in high esteem and much loved.
I recently watched A Midsummer
Night’s Dream at Kew Gardens. Watching the play unfold before me and being surrounded
by trees, plants, and groves brought back fond memories of another time when I
watched the same play in Regent’s Park, London. Again, the play comes alive,
and it is as if by magic, fairies seem to exist.
Sitting there surrounded by people who loved Shakespeare, I was reminded why I wrote Midsummer – with a thought of how William Shakespeare may have written his famous play. A play from a dream. A short story all based on a What If…
My mind is still pondering another Shakespeare play to focus on – Romeo and Juliet, or The Tempest… maybe. Keep a lookout.
In the meantime, another of my favourites is Jane Austen. In particular, Pride and Prejudice.
For the Love of Jane - Pride and Prejudice variation novella.
I absolutely adore this book. I'm
certain I've seen most of the different film and TV adaptations and have also
read the books. The wit and the drama surrounding misunderstandings, and the
theme of not judging a book by its cover, are simply enchanting.
Out of all of Jane Austen's novels, this is definitely my favourite. "Pride and Prejudice"
is a classic novel about the sparks that fly when spirited Elizabeth Bennet
meets single, rich, and proud Mr Darcy. However, Mr Darcy reluctantly finds
himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class. Can each of them
overcome their own pride and prejudice?
Since watching the Bridgerton
series, I've been revisiting Pride and Prejudice and some of its novella
variations. I often find myself wondering what could have happened at certain
points in the story and what changes would have taken place - not just for the
Bennet family, Mr. Darcy, and Mr. Bingley, but for all the other characters as
well.
I often wonder what would have
happened if Elizabeth had accepted Mr. Darcy's first proposal. Would her
response have been different if her circumstances were different? I'm putting
"pen to paper," as they say. 😊
Coming in September 2025 is A Different Kind of Pride, and I cannot wait to share this story with you. More updates to come. So keep a lookout!
There's also another "What
If" in the works - "For the Love of Arthur." I shall
leave it at that, but more information will follow. Let me know what you think
this could be about!
