Counting Down to The Quarterback
Why Luke and Melanie spoke so loudly to me
The Quarterback – LA Stories #1
With less than a couple of weeks before the release of The Quarterback, I would like to share a few things. Why I was so inspired by writing Luke and Melanie's story. 😊
I generally love
sports. The emotions and camaraderie when you watch a live sports event with
friends are pretty amazing. The uncertainty of the outcome is another reason to love it
I’ve always wanted to write a sports romance
– I love reading them too.
While I was writing The Quarterback,
it reignited my passion for American Football, the love of the players
and coaches of the game, in particular, my passion for the greatest quarterback
ever!
Some of the greatest dramas take place both
on the playing field and behind the scenes. The emotion on the field doesn’t tell
all the hard work that athletes put in for a game or event that lasts ten
seconds, 90 minutes or in a one-hour time frame; all the sacrifices and
dedication they had to make to get that one moment in time.
In their love story, I wanted to capture the joy I have for the game, the mysticism and openness of one of America’s most loved sports.
With that in mind, Luke shouted ever so loudly
in my head when I was writing SONOMA WITH YOU, book one of
the California Stories - the story of Madison and Zach and their love for each
other. Sonoma With You is out in September.
The loudest voice above the lovable and
charming Harding men. And all these men wanted their love affairs with their
women to be told.
But Luke and Melanie were begging to come
alive. He popped into my head when conversations around the premiere of The
Quarterback.
I wanted to know what made him tick. His
friends love him; they are in awe of him, even though these men are successful in
their own right. Why is that?
I always felt he was the glue that binds
them all. He is that voice that quietly navigates these awesome men.
With Luke’s voice in my head, he pushed Zach
and Madison’s love story temporarily to one side, and as I wrote about his love
for Melanie I felt it was a solid and undeniable connection that would cross
oceans and move mountains; the kind of love that will pass any insecurity.
His Lanie needed to be as feisty and strong to
handle such a powerful, domineering and, yet adorable man. And like most strong
women, insecurities are part of the package but a love a good man can only
elevate. I loved their gentle and caring to each other as if they were meant to
be.
In writing Luke’s story it also opened up
their world to me – and Ari became the first extension of that universe.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing about them. Available at all your favourite bookstores here.
The Quarterback Release Date: July 9th
